Butterflies in maths?

In maths, we have been continuing to look at fractions: specifically adding and subtracting...
We looked first at how it is not possible to + or - fractions if the denominators are different. Therefore, where possible, we can try and change one of the fractions to an equivalent fraction that matches the denominator of the other.
Sometimes, however, this is not possible. In these situations, we can try and use the 'butterfly' method. Hopefully, the children can explain and demonstrate how this works for you!
