Personal Development Week

For our last full week of the term, we focused on Personal Development...
In our RE lessons, we explored the beginnings of the Christian church: thinking about the church community as well as the buildings themselves. In later lessons, we considered the architecture of the church buildings and how they can vary around the world to reflect local cultures. Finally, we considered ways in which these buildings can be utilised to support the local community - in particular through the use of their community halls.
In PSHE, we looked at weddings – the different types and how they are experienced differently in various religions. We also spent time reminding ourselves what a good friendship should look like and make us feel. On the 'flip side', we identified warning signs that a friendship is unhealthy, such as it being unbalanced, unequal or not allowing change.
Within Personal Development, we tried to get a greater understanding of how the brain makes connections, learning that mistakes are natural and that the more we practise skills or methods, the stronger the connections that are formed within our neurological pathways. Additionally, we spent time thinking about some bad choices we have made, whether this makes us bad people and what we should do in future if we do make bad choices.
