  • Christmas Love To Learn

    Published 19/12/17, by Admin

Well done to everyone who completed the half term Love to Learn challenges – the children enjoyed talking about Fireworks night and Diwali in class.

One of the areas of learning in the Foundation Stage is People and Communities.  This area focuses on children knowing the customs and routines within their own family.  It also requires the children to understand and respect that all families have different customs and beliefs.  In order to help the children understand this we ask that you use your child’s ‘Love to Learn book’ over Christmas to show what your family do at Christmas e.g. routines of the day, where Father Christmas leaves the presents, the food you eat and any traditions you may have in your house.  We will then have a look at love to learn books after the school holidays and talk about the different and exciting things that children do over Christmas time.  If you do not celebrate Christmas you could include pictures of the fun things you have done in the school holidays or include pictures of an important festival to you.

PLEASE RETURN BOOKS BY Thursday 4thJANUARY

I am learning to recognise the sounds hear and write sounds in words.

This week we have been learning about the nativity. We read the story, watched a video and acted out the story ourselves. The children then were able to sequence the story themselves and write about what happened. You could ask your children to tell you the story in order of events.

I am learning to compare and weigh objects.

We have been looking at the different animals from the nativity stable, we have weighed them using balance scales to see which one is heaviest or lightest. We have also compared the weight of the animals identifying how many cubes equal their weight. You could use the language of weight at home with your child to help reinforce the vocabulary i.e. which one is heavier the apple or the banana?

I am learning to write simple words and phrases.

The children have been labelling some winter items i.e. red hat, snow, boots. They were encoraged to say the word and write the sounds that they could hear. They were fantastic! They are becoming more and more independent. We have also given the children their 'Automony Books' these are books for them to use during Choosing Time. They can choose what they do in them as long as it has a writing focus. As you can see from the picture they have really loved using them.
