    I am learning to hear and write the initial sound.

     

    This week we have carried on learning more sounds and practising the ones learnt last week. We have also been identifying and writing the initial sounds of different words i.e. pig, cat, tiger. We are really proud of the work we have done this week.

    This week in our 'All About Me' topic we have focused on our bodies, particulary our senses. We have discussed similarities and differences, what we look like and how things feel and taste. We all made our faces out of wraps and vegetables, including as much detail as we could.

    Today we had our picture taken for the Thanet Gazette. We were all very professional and had lots of fun! The picture will be published in the Gazette in a week or 2 for, the new reception intake feature. (This picture is not the one that will be in the paper, they were all looking at the camera for the professional photographer).

    I am learning to count up to 10 objects (or more if appropriate) accurately.

    Any opportunity to count is beneficial so try counting as many things at home as possible. How many sausages are you cooking? How many stairs in your house? How many toys in the toy box?

    We have spent time the past two weeks brushing up our creative skills. We worked in teams to create our very own fish tanks, which we were very proud of. We have also made our own hand puppets and performed a puppet show for the adults.

    I am learning to do a survey.

    This week we have completed surveys to find out what pets everyone have and colour cars thier parents drive. The children then went on to create their own surveys to find out what their friends favourite colours are, and what the most popular icecream flavour is.

    I am learning about floating and sinking.

    This week the children have carried out an experiment to find out what classroom materials float and which sink. They first made predictions, they then filled a tray with water and placed differnt items in one at a time to see if their predictions were right. You could ask them to share the results with you.

    I am learning about time.

    This week the children have loved learning about clocks and time. They have identifed the different features of a clock face. They have learnt to tell the times o clock and half past. The children have taken part in a range of activities including: matching the correct clock face to the written time, make their own clock and reading and writing the time. Can they share what they have learnt with you? Ask them the time.
