Cultural Awareness Day was a massive success! The children had a fantasic day taking part in a range of different activities i.e. dance, art music and drama. Thank you for all your hard work putting together outfits and food for the tasting session.
I am learning to my a symmetrical picture.
This week we have been learning about symmetry. We have created pictures that are symmetrical using stamps, paint, counters and play-dough. This was a very hands on practical approach to symmetry which the children loved. At home you could encourage your child to make a symmetrical picture using items form the garden or kitchen.
I am learning about mini-beast habitats.
After our trip to The Rare Breeds Center, where we had a mini beast hunt, we have spent time looking at the different habitats mini beasts like. We discussed this then wrote sentences describing the type of habitat and the food they like. We also created some of our own habitats.
I am learning to write facts.
We have now started our Mini-beast topic and we have looked at a lot of factual information and videos to support our learning. We have also written our own facts about Mini-beasts.
I am learning share between groups.
This week we have progressed from finding half and sharing between 2 groups or 2 people and we have now moved onto sharing a number of objects between 3, 4 or 5 children/groups. We have spoken about the need to share fairly and learnt the words equal, group, fair and same.
We have had a fantastic day at the Rare Breeds Centre. We have seen and touched lots of different animals. We found so many different types of mini beasts on our mini beast workshop, and impressed the staff with all our knowledge. We even got to take part in some pig racing which was very funny!
As you know Thursday is our cultural awareness day, we would like the children to produce something that represents the phrase 'Good to be Me!' It could be about all their interests, hobbies, special skills or their cultural make-up. It can be photos, pictures, a poster, fact file - or any other method that appeals to the children! Please can the children bring these in on Thursday for them to share with their friends.
I am learning to find half of an even number.
We have continued learning how to find half of an even number. We were really good at sharing out resources to find half of a number when we were working practically and now we have learnt how to find half of a number using pictures and jottings to help us.
I am learning to write a sentence.
This week we have been using verbs and adjectives to describe the chicks and what they are doing. The children have loved doing this and have spent alot of their child initiated time drawing and writing about the chicks.
We have had 7 chicks hatch this week which has been an amazing experiance for the children and adults. :) You can watch the chicks on our website - click on the chicken cam button (weekdays only).

I am learning to write facts about plants.
This week we have looked closely at how plants grow, what they need to help them grow as well as the different parts of a plant. We have labelled pictures of plants and we also extended our ideas into sentences to state what we already knew and have learnt about plants and their growth.
