    The children have worked on balancing this week. We have spoken about holding still for at least 5 seconds. The children have been balancing on different parts of their bodies. You could try seeing how many different balances your child can hold.

    This week we have learnt all about the nativity, why people celebrate it and what they do to celebrate. You could talk about your own family traditions with your child, they can then feedback to the class next week.

    I am learning to adapt my work.

    This week we have made supersonic sleighs. The children had to work with their talk partner and come up with their own ideas. They then had to make them.  The children learnt through trial and error to adapt how they were doing something if it didn’t work and try another way i.e. fixing a bottle (extra jet power) to the sleigh. The children came up with some fantastic and varied ideas.

    I am learning to compare and weigh objects.

    We have been looking at the different animals from the nativity stable, we have weighed them using balance scales to see which one is heaviest or lightest. We have also compared the weight of the animals identifying how many cubes equal their weight. You could use the language of weight at home with your child to help reinforce the vocabulary i.e. which one is heavier the apple or the banana?

    I am learning to recognise the sounds hear and write sounds in words.

    This week we have been learning about the nativity. We read the story, watched a video and acted out the story ourselves. The children then were able to sequence the story themselves and write about what happened. You could ask your children to tell you the story in order of events.

    I am learning to order numbers. We have been putting penguins in order of their age, the smallest number to the largest. At first we did consecutive numbers then moved onto having gaps within the ages i.e. 5, 6, 7, 8 and 5, 9, 12, 15, 20.
