Maths

An overview

Maths

In maths this week, the children have been making numbers using the Base 10 equipment and learning how many tens and ones make a number.  They have also been partitioning numbers e.g.

42 = 40 and 2

42 = 4 tens and 2 ones

Some children have also started to find missing parts when partitioning e.g.

42 = ? and 2

At home, you could give your child some two-digit numbers (e.g. 45   23    87).  Talk about what the number is made up of (e.g. in 45 there are 4 tens and 5 ones) and then ask them to ‘ partition’ (e.g. 45 = 40 and 5).
