SOUND: Exploring pitch

We have moved into our newest RAPS curriculum unit about sound...

This afternoon, Team Amin explored the meaning of pitch. We now know that pitch is to do with how high or how low a sound is. It is very different to volume which is about how loud or quiet a sound is. To explore pitch, we took part in an experiment which we did together, where we explored how the amount of water (that we dyed blue!) in a glass affects the pitch of the sound. We found out that the more water inside the glass, the lower the pitch. The glass with no water inside it had the highest pitch. This was related to the amount of air that is present in a container and the vibrations. We then produced our own brief write up, which included a diagram, to help us remember what we did! How fun!
