This week in maths we started a new topic - 2d and 3d shapes.
This week is our Personal Development Week and we are looking at the skill of collaboration.
We discussed the things we need to do to work successfully together; taking turns, listening to each other's ideas and making sure everyone is included; and thought of examples when we had worked well with others.
We are looking forward to welcoming you all back tomorrow! We are looking forward to hearing about what you've done over the break.
Just some reminders:
Our PE days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Love to learn wanted posters are due in by the 28th February.
For this term's home learning we're asking the children to create a 'Wanted' poster for a good friend. The template is in your child's Love to Learn book or if we didn't have their book we have sent the template home in their book bag today.
As today was ' Safer Internet Day', we spent some time learning about Internet safety, particularly when using online games. We talked about how it important it is to only use the Internet with adult supervision and only use websites approved by your adults. We also thought about how to make sure we are kind to others online. The children then took part in an activity to sort information it is safe to share online and information that should be kept offline.
Last Friday was Number Day; a chance to highlight maths and the fun that can be had with numbers. We had a fantastic morning of activities where the children got to enjoy spending time in each of the KS1 classrooms. They used their number skills playing giant snakes and ladders, skittles, problem solving activities with counters and Numicon amongst other things.
Over the past couple of weeks we've been practising multiplication and division. Here are a couple of games you can play to practise what you've learned.
Doggy Division concentrates on division by sharing and Number Fact Families helps you practise what you know about the relationships between division and multiplication facts.

This week in English we've been looking at the features of recipes. We were inspired by our text Burger Boy to create a recipe for a healthy alternative to pizza. We decided to create fruit pizza recipes earlier this week, and today we had a go at following these recipes!
The class really enjoyed making a variety of fruit pizzas and arranging the toppings in creative ways!
This week as part of our healthy bodies, healthy minds topic we've been learning about what happens to our bodies when we exercise. Year 2 learnt about what happens to your heart, brain and muscles as well as other parts of your body when you exercise. We thought it might be fun for you to take part in a bit of exercising at home and talk about how your body feels when moving to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3LPrhI0v-w&list=PLyCLoPd4VxBuxu3sLztrvWFehzv-LnR2c&index=2
Every year the National Gallery launch their 'Take One Picture' event, which aims to inspire children in schools across the country to make their own artwork based on one of the gallery's paintings.
This year, the chosen picture is 'A Shipwreck in Stormy Seas' by Claude-Joseph Vernet.
For this term, we're going to be sending home spellings every two weeks. This is to enable them to be taught properly in school. We've got a little bit out of sync due to our Personal Development week at the start of term, but I aim to ensure that new spellings go some fortnightly. The test will usually be on Fridays, but it may take place on a Monday if there have been timetable shifts.
The children have been having great fun painting paper plate fruit wit Mrs Vost as an introduction to our new Topic - Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds. They've also been making poster about te benefits of exercise for our display.
