As part of Personal Development week this week we have been learning about Buddhism in RE. We have learnt about the wheel of life and how it reminds Buddhists of their teachings; and about Vesak, a festival in May that celebrates Buddha's birthday. During this festival Buddhists decorate their temples with lanterns and flags, place flowers around Buddha's shrine and give vegetarian food to those in need as well as other things.
We enjoyed learning about the festival and creating some of the things Buddhists would during the festival.
This week we've been learning about multiplication. We've learned that the 'x' symbol means 'lots of' and that we can show this in different ways.
We've drawn pictures, written equations and today we explored using arrays to represent multiplication.
We hope you had a restful and relaxing Christmas break. We are looking forward to welcoming you back to school tomorrow for the new term.
Well done for all of your hard work this term! We hope you all have a lovely half term! See you in the new year!
Love,
The Year 2 Team
Next term we are learning about the human body and how we can keep ourselves healthy! Our love to learn over the half-term is to keep a food diary of what we eat for a week. Due Friday 7th January.
We just want to say a huge thank you to parents and carers for the tremendous costumes and for all the hard work you put into helping the children to learn their lines! We hope you agree that they put on a fantastic show which was thoroughly enjoyable and much of their success is down to YOUR incredible support.
Yesterday we had a very special visitor! The children absolutely loved seeing Santa and were thrilled with their books. A huge thanks to the PTFA for organising this.
This week we've been learning how to recognise coins and notes. We've also been learning about their value and how to make different amounts.
How many 1p coins are there in £1?
How can you make 50p using other coins?
Year 2 will be visiting the shop on Wednesday 8th December so please ensure your child has the correct money for anything they want to buy on that day (and that day only).
We're getting ready for our dress rehearsal of Gnome Alone!
Please bring your child's costume for the performance into school on Monday 6th December. It should be in a bag with your child's name written clearly on the bag as well as the costume itself.
There wasn't a huge amount of time to practise our spellings this week so we'll test for last week's spellings on Monday 29th.
