This term we start the Read Write Inc. Spelling Scheme which covers all the spelling rules children need to learn in Year 2. It's a fun programme with a variety of activities which will help your child learn to spell words beyond using phonics. New spellings will be sent home this week but as there are lots of new activities to teach the children we won't be doing a test on these until next Friday, 12th November.
Welcome back! We hope you've had a lovely half-term, we are looking forward to hearing what you've been up to!
Just a reminder that PE is on Thursday and Friday, so please make sure you come to school in your PE kit.
We are running a competition with Eco Kids to see which class can fill the most bags with clothes, shoes and toys for recycling. So, rummage in your cupboards and raid your toy box for things you no longer want or need that could be donated and recycled.
Let's make Team Okai the winning Team!
There will be no spellings sent home over half term as we will be starting our new spelling scheme next term.
We had a wonderful time at Pegwell Bay Nature Reserve on Tuesday! Team Okai enjoyed exploring the local environment and spotting plants and wildlife. A huge thank you to the parents who were able to support us on this trip. It was great to have you there, we hope you enjoyed it too!
Next term we will be studying The Natural and Human World and we are taking inspiration from land artist, Andy Goldsworthy.
We'd love it if you could make some art in the same style as Andy Goldsworthy and photograph it. Please print your photos (on paper is fine) and bring them in for display. You can also put them in your Love to Learn books.
Please see information about tomorrow's Halloween Disco. Children can come to school in Halloween fancy dress if they wish.
The Big Draw Event actually takes place on Friday 5th November at 3-4 pm. Apologies for the incorrect date, it was a type on the memo we were all sent. The date has been amended on the original post.
Please come and join us on Friday 5th of November, 3-4pm in the hall for 'The Big Draw Festival'.
'The Big Draw Festival' Is a worldwide visual literacy festival dedicated to raising the profile of drawing and making as a tool for well-being, creativity and social engagement throughout society.
This year's theme is #MakeTheChange. Ms Vost will be inviting you to draw a forest with eco tape in the hall, raising awareness of how trees and tree growth can make a positive change to our lives and our world.
Please find below the spellings to practice for the week, these spellings will be going out on Monday.
These are common exception words (words you can't sound out phonetically) that we are going over in school, please practice these at home as often as you can.
Just a reminder to start collecting materials for our Bug Hotels that we'll be making on Monday.
Suitable materials are:
· straw
· twigs
· pine cones
· bamboo canes (or any hollow gardening canes)

Thank you!
