First Aid Lessons for Life at RAPS

Children at Ramsgate Arts Primary have learned a very important lesson - how to save a life.
A First Aid workshop with the Red Cross saw Year 5 pupils take part in a practical session that taught them what to do in a range of emergency situations.
They learned how to help someone who is choking, how to put pressure on a wound, what to do in an emergency, how to check if someone is breathing, and how to perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
They also practised placing someone in the recovery position and explored how to use everyday objects around them if they don’t have access to a First Aid kit.
The workshop was highly interactive, with children taking part in role-play scenarios and asking thoughtful questions throughout. Their enthusiasm didn’t stop at the classroom door — some pupils were even spotted practising their new skills in the playground afterwards.
Assistant Head of School Hannah Dannell highlighted the importance of the workshop. She said: “Learning First Aid is a vital life skill, and it’s an incredibly important part of our PSHE curriculum. The children were so engaged and eager to learn – it was fantastic to see.
“We want all our children to feel confident in knowing what to do if someone is hurt or unwell.”
Head of School Nick Budge said that RAPS aims to make the First Aid workshop an annual part of the school curriculum.
He said: “The practical sessions were incredibly valuable and really brought the topic to life for the children. They have acquired knowledge that will stand them in good stead in an emergency throughout their lives.”
Ramsgate Arts Primary is part of the Viking Academy Trust with its partner schools Chilton Primary in Ramsgate and Upton Juniors in Broadstairs.
