Nature Inspires Art Sculptures at RAPS

Nature-inspired sculptures are being created in outdoor learning sessions by children at Ramsgate Arts Primary.
The Year 2 group used a variety of ‘found’ materials including stones, conkers, sticks, leaves, grass, and pinecones as the basis of their designs.
The work is part of their topic called The Natural and Human World which began with an ‘art to start’ session looking at the impressive work of acclaimed nature artist Andy Goldsworthy.
Teacher Kiki Amin, Assistant Head of School, explained: “His work can be found from forests and fields to city environments all across the world. After discussing our favourite pieces and what made them stand out for us, we took our creativity outdoors to create our own nature-inspired sculptures, even attempting to incorporate the spirals we saw in images of his art.

“It was wonderful to see everyone demonstrating our RAPS values of creativity and collaboration while producing some stunning pieces of art together.”
Over the coming weeks, children will continue to delve into the subject of Geography in class through this unit, learning how to recognise human and physical features, making their own aerial maps and even using a map to go on a 'treasure hunt' across the school.
They will design a new product to reduce humans’ plastic waste as well linking in with last term's design and technology lessons where pupils designed and made their own bug hotels during their Habitats as Homes unit which they then either took home or which were buried in the school's farm area.

Ramsgate Arts Primary is part of the Viking Academy Trust with its partner schools Chilton Primary in Ramsgate and Upton Juniors in Broadstairs.
