Reading at Home
Reading at Home
Please can you ensure that you are reading with your child for at least 10 minutes every day. I cannot stress how important this is for their development of fluency and enjoyment of reading. The teachers regularly check book bags and will change books if the reading record book has been signed by an adult. This week I have asked the teachers to let me know how often your child has read to an adult. I was quite surprised by what I found.
In Team Spurrier 30% of the children have not been listened to all over the past two weeks. Two children have not been listened to at all since we have been back to school in September.
In team Beraet the picture is similar - 30% of children had only been listened to twice this year and three have never been listened to by an adult at home.
I know your class teacher will have already approached you if your child hasn’t been listened to regularly and I will be monitoring this now because it is vital that your child gets into these good reading habits for their own success and happiness - not just in school but in their future lives. What we ultimately wish to install is a true love of reading for your child and we know how important the children’s home environment can be as a starting point. So thank you – your support with this is hugely appreciated!
