This week we learnt about firefighters, lifeguards and the coastguard. We did some amazing science experiments alongside the lessons. We predicted which materials would put out a fire and then tested them. Water and Sand were the clear winners but ask your child about which materials didn't work (paper and wood) and which object was surprisingly effective (a tiny frying pan from our home corner!). Our second experiment involved testing whether objects float or sink. A surprising amount of objects floated, even our good friend the plastic bear floated which surprised all the children and staff who predicted it would sink. Thankfully our much loved black stone came to save the day; sinking impressively. This allowed the class lifeguard (one of the children's colour changing plastic toys) to dive in and save the poor stone, allowing it to be used once again to represent numbers in maths!
(Due to the high octane, high pressure scientific environment, we forgot to document these experiments).
