Wiggly fun with our class workers

What an exciting time we've had in Team Cole—we’ve made our very own class wormery! The children’s excitement and curiosity throughout this project have been incredible, and it has sparked some fantastic learning.
We’ve been reading ‘Yucky Worms’ as part of our Power of Reading work, and it’s completely transformed the way we think about these wiggly garden helpers. The children have been receiving special letters from Wiggly the Worm himself, explaining all the amazing things worms do—like helping plants grow by making the soil healthy.
To begin with, we held a worm vote to see how we felt about worms. Some children were a bit unsure and put their vote at “yucky”. But after lots of research, stories, and hands-on learning, we gave everyone the chance to move their vote—and many changed their minds to “not yucky” once they discovered how helpful and important worms really are!
Creating the wormery was a brilliant team effort. The children carefully layered soil, sand, and compost, and added leaves and food scraps to give our worms a cosy home. Now we can observe the worms tunnelling and working hard right before our eyes.
We are so proud of how open-minded and enthusiastic the children have been. Well done, Team Cole—real scientists in the making!
