Journeys Through Stories, History and Numbers

A busy but enjoyable week of learning — finishing Edward Tulane, stepping back into Roman Canterbury (Durovernum Cantiacorum), and building confidence with division in maths

It’s been a lovely, busy week of learning in class. We’ve been finishing The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, and the children have really enjoyed talking about how Edward feels at the end of the story and what he learns about love along the way. There were lots of thoughtful conversations, which helped them when writing their own final chapter.

We’ve also been stepping back in time to Roman Britain. The children learned about what life might have been like for a Roman child and used this to write a first-person account set in Roman Canterbury, known as Durovernum Cantiacorum. Their writing was full of imagination and historical detail.

In maths, we’ve been tackling the tricky topic of division. The children have been using place value counters and part-whole models to help them understand how numbers can be shared and grouped. It’s been great to see their confidence grow as the week has gone on.

A great week all round — lots of hard work and plenty to be proud of! 😊
