Today we had year 3 visit us for our reading buddy slot. It was a really lovely experience. At first everyone was a bit nervous; both the year 3 and reception children (and me), but after a few introductions both classes read their books together and talked about the stories in a brilliant manner. I'm not sure who had more fun, year 3, reception or me!

In our early morning work and our fizzy time, we have been practising our writing on white boards. The children have blown me away with how well they can draw over the numbers, but even more impressively, they have been writing numbers and letters independently on the white boards as well.

It's been lovely to see the art competition entries. They have all looked brilliant and the art teacher was very impressed.
In art, we have been making self-portraits. Yesterday we learnt what a self-portrait was and then used mirrors to look at our features and then draw them on to A4 paper. The finished self-potraits looked amazing!
Meeting this week...
After the success of RAPS recordings first release and the high demand for more singles from across the playground, Green Room release another soon to be hit single: Buzz Buzz Bee. The lyrics were written as a class collaboration* and the song has been stuck in everyone's heads since last week.
*Since our recording session we have found out that not all bees hibernate in winter.
In our oral story telling today we created an amazing story about a knight, his friend the mermaid and her friend the whale, who saved Snow White from a fire as Disneyland. Ask your child if they can recite the story to you using the pictures. They loved re-reading it and creating it as a group. Unfortunately, the knight got soaking wet in the process of saving Snow White.
This week we have been looking at matching. We have looked at how shapes match, what is different and the same about objects and sorting objects in to groups that match in different ways.
There is an art competition happening at school at the moment! There was an assembly, which our children didn't attend, about Banksy (picture above) and Barbara Kruger (picture below) and the competition is to create a piece of art inspired by either artist's work or techniques and include a strong message/theme. The ideas suggested in the letter (included below) might be difficult for our children to understand, but this could be a great opportunity to introduce your child to graffiti or graphic design/art and make a fun piece of art together.

We had our first oral storytelling lesson today. The children collectively wrote the story and I guided them a little (away from some quite gruesome endings for the dragon involving a variety of weapons). After that, to my surprise, the children chose a non vigilante route and decided to phone the police!

Last week we had our first PE lesson with Miss McCormack. She loved being with Team Jones and said that the class played a game about beans. We also made an obstacle course in the garden and crawled and climbed our way through it with Mr O'neill.
