  • Superhero day

    Published 06/12/22, by Admin

Today saw an unprecedented amount of superheroes in the Thanet area. The Superheroes, travelling to RAPS from as far afield as train-land planet, the Ice Planet and a strong contingent from flower-land planet, were on earth for the annual Superhero convention at RAPS. Predominantly, the convention was filled with superheroes, but a few Supervillains (Hammer-Hand Boy, Flamebird and Super Lion) put their differences aside and came along to talk all things Superhero.

The day started with introductions and a look at cutting edge outfit design and tech innovations. After our introductions, we practised our X-Ray Vision to find out which superhero was hidden under the impenetrable blanket. Lightening Robot had the best X-Ray vision; figuring out who was missing with no help.

We then did some Super Dancing: the hits of the day were the Ghostbuster theme tune and the original Batman theme. NANANANANANANANABATMAN! The next activity was our obstacle course to build up our Superhero strength.

We then used out mighty strength to make paper chains and decorate the classroom.

After a hearty meal, we grilled the Superheroes about their home planets, powers, and their motivation to be a superhero (or villain).

The day was a super-fun. The organisers, Bicycle Boy, Bathman and Flamebird thought it was a resounding success.......but.......despite having the best Superhero security in the galaxy, one of our Supervillains escaped and is on the loose in the Thanet area: watch out for Hammer-Hand Boy, he has the strongest hammer hands in the known universe, approach with caution!

  • Anti-bullying week 2022

    Published 05/12/22, by Admin

Last week Mr Budge led an assembly to explore the theme of anti-bullying following the national anti-bullying week in late November. Read more about anti-bullying here

The focus for this year's anti-bullying campaign is 'Reach Out'. This promotes the idea of challenging unkind behaviours by reaching out to someone. You can watch a video about this here. In school, we want you to reach out to an adult if you notice something that you think might be bullying. You can talk to your teacher or TA, Miss Elliot, Mrs Hughes, Mrs Beech, Mr Budge, Mrs Brown...anyone! There is always someone who will want to help. You could use the school worry button to report your worry.

At RAPS we know that being kind is a wonderful way to make ourselves and others feel happy and safe. As a school community we always aim to learn and play with respect and care for one another.

We learn about the British Values. Part of this includes exploring the values of mutual respect, individual liberty and tolerance. We also learn about our core values of diversity and collaboration to help us show kindness. We also develop our understanding of these themes through our termly PSHE lessons and focused assemblies that relate to this.

With this in mind, let's all continue to act with kindness to spread positivity every day.

  • Updated Christmas schedule

    Published 02/12/22, by Admin

Our Christmas party will be on the 9th of December at 9am and our Christmas performance will be at 2.30pm on the same day.

A list of suggested items will be on the bulletin board. If you could write your name next to the item you will bring, or add an item on to the list, it would be much appreciated: this way we won't end up with 30 multipacks of Iced Gems :)

  • Love to learn due on Monday, Superhero costume worn on Tuesday.

    Published 02/12/22, by Admin

We are well underway with the superhero part of 'Our Heroes' topic. Previously, we made a post about the 'Love to Learn' books. The post is copied below. The main points are:

The Love to learn book should be brought in on Monday 5th December.

The home-made superhero costumes should be worn to school on Tuesday 6th December.

Love to Learn: Design and make a Superhero costume

This is your child’s ‘Love to Learn’ book. This is a project book where you will be set tasks and you can complete them in the book, however you like with drawings, photos, writing etc and can take up as many pages as you like. Please get as creative as possible!

Our first ‘Love to Learn’ task this term will be designing and making our very own Superhero costume. As we have been learning about real life heroes and had some superhero fun, we would love to design the character name, superpowers and labelled design in this book. We would love for you to then make this costume with homemade materials. The more out there the better (we would love to see some pants and tight combos). In the past we have had plastic boy who saves the ocean, smile girl who makes all her friends happy and many more.

You can display this in any way you want with photos, drawings, art work, captions, labels, cut outs from magazines etc. Please let this be your child’s ideas and work but please feel free to help them to present this.  Please return completed Love to learn book by Monday 5th December.

We would love you to then wear the home-made superhero costumes to school on Tuesday 6th December for our fun-filled Superhero day.

  • Designing a plane for Superman

    Published 02/12/22, by Admin

Surprisingly, Superman sent us a letter in the post today (along with the Elf on the Shelf). Superman had some flying issues and had commissioned our class to design and test a new plane for him. We brainstormed what designs would be best, we tested 4 designs, we made predictions about which would fly best, flew the planes and then recorded our results. Mr. Jones moonlighted as an air traffic controller for the day and made sure that the airspace was clear and that the airport had the capacity to have so many planes land in such a short period of time. We found out that a normal design with a medium length flew the best. The plane is currently under production ready for Superman to save the day once more.

  • Dinky town adventure!

    Published 22/11/22, by Admin

Today, we went to Dinky Town! The trip was a resounding success. Personally, I flew to Australia and Ibiza, and dropped some sheep off in New Zealand on the way. I had dinner in a diner (a smoothie and stew), I tried to give advice to a mother who thought it was a good idea to put her baby in a tree-house, I did some shopping, and narrowly avoided getting run other (multiple times) by a rouge digger driver. Ask your children what they did or where they went...hopefully, like myself, they avoided jail.
